Nitrobenzene

Nitrobenzene

Nitrobenzene (NB) is a pale yellow liquid with an almond like odor. It freezes to give greenish-yellow crystals. It is produced on a large scale from benzene as a precursor to aniline.

In the laboratory, it is occasionally used as a solvent, especially for electrophilic regents.

NB is slightly soluble in water. It is toxic sustance, contact with skin and eyes may cause irritation. It also decomposes into highly toxic gaseous nitrogen oxides when heated.

NB production at %100 capacity equals to 5569 Kilogram/hour that is equal of daily production of 133656 kilograms and an annual production with a basis of 300 working day which roughly equals to 40 thousand tons.

NB Application

Approximately %95 of NB is consumed in the production of aniline. NB is a precursor to faric dyes and it also used to mask unpleasant odors in shoe and floor polished, lether dressing, paint solvent and other material. Redistilled NB has een used as an inexpensive perfume for soaps. A significant merchant market for N is its use in the production of acetaminophen. NB is also applied to prepare a variety of dyes and its specifically used as a middle material for dye production.
