Occupational safety and health

Occupational safety and health (OSH), is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health, and welfare of people at work. These terms also refer to the goals of this field. The industrial health unit of Karun Petrochemical Company aims to protect and improve the health of the employees as the main sources of this organization and reduce their occupational hazards. The main activities of the industrial hygiene unit are in three areas and as follows:

 

  1. Industrial hygiene
  2. Environmental Health
  3. Nutrition

Our main focus in occupational health is on three different objectives: (i) the maintenance and promotion of workers’ health and working capacity; (ii) the improvement of working environment and work to become conducive to safety and health and (iii) development of work organizations and working cultures in a direction which supports health and safety at work and in doing so also promotes a positive social climate and smooth operation and may enhance productivity of the undertakings. The concept of working culture is intended in this context to mean a reflection of the essential value systems adopted by the undertaking concerned. Such a culture is reflected in practice in the managerial systems, personnel policy, principles for participation, training policies and quality management of the undertaking.

1-Industrial hygiene:

Carrying out periodic (every year and on special occasions) evaluations of workplace to find harmful factors and follow up on engineering control measures to reduce and eliminate workplace hazards.

Sampling and analysis of chemicals by the integrated laboratory

Tracking and reviewing the health status of employees by conducting industrial examinations (periodic examinations)

Implementation of the biochemical monitoring plan in 2018 concerning benzene, toluene, methanol and nitrobenzene (running)

Performing specific examinations and performing the (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) G6PD test for all personnel interacting with the chemical aniline and PMA, (people with G6PD deficiency have exposure limits to aniline and PMA)

Highly advanced industrial hygiene unit with the ability to measure the harmful factors of the work environment including sound meter, light meter, UV, IR measuring device, PHOCHECK, electromagnetic fields, sound dosimeters and etc.

Assessing the health risks associated with chemicals

Implementation of leak detection program and follow up of reported inconsistencies

Monthly technical committee meetings

Check the status of all contracting companies based on compliance with health requirements

Holding health education courses, preparing pamphlets, brochures and booklets on health topics

Periodic health inspections of the health performance of contracting companies

Purchasing of ergonomic equipment for personnel employed in the complex, including an adjustable sub-monitor, footrest and backrest, according to ergonomic evaluation performed in 2016-2017.

2. Environmental Health:

  Daily monitoring of drinking water and performing PH assays, chlorine, TDS

  Equipped with a health unit with digital PH, chlorine and TDS

  Performing monthly microbial and chemical tests of drinking water

  Installing and installing 30 water purifiers equipped with a UV lamp

  Implementation of the program for fighting insects and rodents in the complex

  Visiting health facilities and public places and restaurants and kitchen complexes

3- Nutrition:

Determine the nutritional needs of the integrated staff based on their anthropometric and demographic information, as well as analysis of the foods in the contract in terms of energy content, macronutrients and food groups, and report the results.

Analysis of the results of the biochemical and anthropometric indices of the employees (reported by industrial medicine) to determine the prevalence of noncommunicable chronic diseases such as dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes and obesity in the population under study and to examine its relationship with the demographic and occupational characteristics of the staff.

Provide nutritional counseling services to all employed people with the goal of getting to know their daily nutritional needs, how to meet daily needs of the current diet and the right eating habits.

Planning and providing specialized diet regimens for staff with diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and at-risk populations.
